Tommy's Florida Service Manager- Kenny Rodgers

Where are you from?
  • I'm from a small town in Northwest Ohio called Grand Rapids.

  • What is your watersports background?
  • Growing up, I lived minutes from the Maumee River, home to all sorts of water activities. I can remember tubing and knee boarding as a youngster, and I would occasionally do some waterskiing. I was introduced to wakeboarding while in high school, and after graduating, I started wakeboarding as much as I possibly could. When I graduated high school, me and two of my closest buddies pooled our graduation gift money and bought a 1988 Ski boat, which I still have to this day. We lived in a camper alongside the river and would try to wakeboard every day!

  • How did you end up in Florida
  • I moved to Florida on a whim. I figured well... I have a college degree and nothing holding me back, I wanted to be somewhere I could be around watersports all year round, and I was looking for an adventure. I'm stoked I made the decision!

  • Favorite off work activity?
  • Loading up a boat with a fun crew and shredding gnar!

  • Boat of choice?
  • Axis T 22. I'm a big fan of its ease of use and I seem to do my best riding behind its monstrous wake.

  • What do you like most about your job at Tommy's
  • Being surrounded by people that are passionate about watersports. I can honestly say that every Tommy's employee is a friend. Working with your friends is a blast.

  • Favorite activity off the water?
  • Toss up between playing flag football, hockey, or watching the Cleveland Browns.

  • Service advice for customers?
  • Be good to your boat and it will be good to you. Give it a quick wipe when you're finished using it for the day, keep up on general maintenance, and most importantly, use your boat! Boats that sit without use are the ones that become problematic. Get out there and have fun!

    • I would like to take a quick moment to recognize the AMAZING Service team at Tommy's Colorado. Last week, we had a long weekend camping trip set up at Horsetooth Res and ended up having a failed alternator on our 2015 Axis. We called and spoke to Rebecca in service on Thursday morning, told her about our situation, and she and Steve were able to get a new alternator delivered to us at Horsetooth Res in Fort Collins, CO. It took us 20 min to pull the alternator, and another 20 min to put the new one in. We were back in action Thursday afternoon, and had an incredible 3 days of Sun and surf on the lake. I cannot say enough positive things about Tommy's Colorado, and will promote and recommend their Sales, Service and Pro Shop to all friends and acquaintances that will listen! Thanks again to Rebecca, Steve, and Nick for the above and beyond attitude and customer service! Thanks also to Megan for following up with us on Friday morning to make sure all was well! You guys rock! You have a dedicated customer for life!

    • Service has been great at the GR location. We actually ended up trading in our 2005 Wakesetter (which you serviced) and buying a new one (Demo) from the GR shop. The guys at the shop have gone out of their way to take care of us. The best customer service we have experienced as far as boats are concerned.

    • I initially had my boat in for a promotional oil change and really appreciated that the service team took the extra time to check out the performance of my boat and give recommendations on areas I needed to make slight modifications to. After the oil change I decided I wanted to replace the Malibu decals on the sides of the boat but had a specific vision in mind (I am not partial to the sun in the Malibu logo). I talked to Will and he found exactly what I was looking for! Very knowledgeable guy who loves boats. If I have any boat questions in the future he will be the first person I contact. I was told about the grand opening and returned to check out the sales and merchandise (and get some food). I left with a Wakeboard, tube, wakeboard and tube ropes. Again Will was extremely helpful and listened to how I use my boat before making recommendations. I was very impressed and will be visiting Tommy's again. Thanks, Tim

    • I received excellent service. The staff was fantastic and kept me informed throughout the process. They also provided detailed quotes for approval prior to any work being done. Overall communication was very good. I'm very pleased and it's nice to have a local inboard shop rather than have to go a much further distance.

    • This service was the last service I will be receiving from your team as I have relocated to NC. That being said I wanted to recognize your entire service team for not only the great service they have provided me in the past, but for this last service in particular because they not only serviced my boat but also wrapped it for me to tow it across country. I have attached some photos of what the boat looked like after 1900 miles on the road. Your service team was very understanding of the fact that I was moving and that I had the boat full of equipment; which I know can be a pain when you're trying to work on anything in the boat. Beyond that I wanted to recognize Steve because thanks to his advice on traveling speed with my trailer I was able to avoid a possible nasty accident when I had a blowout on one of the trailer tires. Had he not made the suggestions that he did I might have really had a bad accident. You have a great team and I wish they were here in NC because they do such a good job.       Nothing but top notch service at Tommy's of Colorado. I bought my 2011 Malibu VLX  from Tommy's and couldn't be happier with Malibu and Tommy's customer service. Brain was awesome to deal with when purchasing my boat. I shopped alot of different manufactures of boats and dealerships in Colorado, and when it came time to purchase my boat, Tommy's was bar none the best to deal with. Not only was Brian great to deal with the boat purchase , but the pro shop is awesome as well. Megan definitely stocks the top brands in all aspects of water sports. My family primarily wakeboards and surfs so we purchase all of our gear at Tommy's. Their pro shop carries everything that you will need for your boating experience. Above all, the people that work at Tommy's is why i continue to stick with Malibu and Tommy's. My family and I will stop in just to say hi and often spend a couple of hours talking with everyone at the shop. They really go above and beyond to make us feel like part of the Tommy's family.
